The Woodlands Care Home, Wolstanton, Staffordshire - Key Staff
Joanne Woolliscroft - Registered Care Home Manager
“Lighthouse Healthcare has offered me the opportunity to develop a service that prepares adults for life, and it’s really fulfilling seeing the results that people can achieve from the little things like preparing a snack or taking bigger steps where they are able to successfully live in their own home.
Qualified to RMA level 4 I have worked for Lighthouse Healthcare since 2004 but have worked within Learning Disability social care since 1993. Initially my career started with a stint in special education services and elderly care, but I decided that adult services was the route I wanted to take and became involved in the re-settlement project at Stallington Hospital in Staffordshire. Following this my career saw me working in the private sector and I have been in managerial positions since 1998.
At Woodlands I take great pride in the fact that each and every one of us builds and maintains good relationships with all people involved in a person’s care whether that be family or healthcare professionals.
I really enjoy working within a staff team that has the combination of experience and skills to support an individual and be involved in their own planning and care pathways.”
Emma Tunnicliffe - Deputy Home Manager
"I started working at The Woodlands in 2006 as a Support Worker on a part time basis whilst I was at University studying Law, and have recently progressed to Deputy Manager here. Working here at The Woodlands changed everything for me and made me realise that I didn’t want to pursue a career in Law I wanted to work in care. From day one I loved working here and I’m still here eight years on!
The best bit about my job is the interaction with the clients on a day to day basis. It’s really fulfilling to see the progression they make and see them move on from here. As we’re a small service we are very good at paying attention to each individuals needs and get to know them well, so it’s sometimes hard to say goodbye when they do leave but at the same time we’re happy they’re progressing with their lives, and look forward to welcoming new people into the service and the challenges they may bring.
Job satisfaction for me is being able to share special occasions with the client group here, being involved in birthday celebrations and Christmas for example and helping them to create memories. It’s really rewarding seeing them put into practise new skills that you have taught them and seeing them develop their independence.
I really like working for Lighthouse and love working with the team at The Woodlands, we’re really close knit and everyone is good at what they do. Lighthouse is supporting me to develop my skills further and I’m currently studying for my Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 3 through the company."
